How To Apply Window Decals Without Bubbles: A Simple Guide
Using window decals is a great way to turn your storefront window into a mini billboard. They’ll convey important information, get the attention of passersby, and look fabulous!
But are window decals easy to use? They can be, but first you need to know how to get the pesky bubbles and wrinkles out! Can’t seem to do this on your own? No worries! In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know.
And when you need window decals that are made to last, vibrant, and easy to use, check out Power Graphics’ wide selection of first-rate window decals.
1. Choose The Right Weather
When it comes to applying window decals, weather matters a lot! You should apply window decals on a warm, dry day. Avoid cold, wet, or windy days because the decals will have a hard time adhering to the surface.
What’s the perfect day? When it’s dry and the temperature 50-90 degrees. If there’s little wind, you should have no trouble putting on your window decals.
2. Start With A Clean Surface
A squeaky clean window is required if you want a bubble- and wrinkle-free decal. If dust and dirt are present, the decal will have a hard time sticking. Moreover, you’ll eventually see these particles through the decal.
Use a good glass cleaner with a microfiber cloth to get the windows clean. And don’t forget to let them dry!
3. Prepare The Decal
Lay your decal flat on the surface and squeeze out any bubbles that appear. Then use a straight tool, like a credit card or ruler, to smooth it out.
As soon as the decal is bubble-free, hold it over the spot where you want it to go. Then get some masking tape so you can hold it in place. Take a step back and make sure it's exactly where you want it. Now it’s time to apply the decal.
4. Apply The Decal
First, wash your hands. Make sure they’re dry before moving on. Attach the top of the decal to the glass using a roll of tape. Then attach the adhesive side to the glass.
Pro tip: Spray some soapy water on the window before you apply the decal. This will prevent it from sticking right away. At this stage, it’s quite easy to get the bubbles and wrinkles out. Just make sure you smooth it out before the water dries.
And if the decal is on the larger side, a second person can be a big help. One of you can apply the decal and the other can make sure it’s totally smooth. Just remember to start at the top and work down.
Use a ruler or credit card to squeeze out the soapy water and air bubbles; work from the center out. Then use a clean microfiber cloth to wipe the area so it’s moisture-free.
Let It Dry
Patience is key at this stage! Wait at least 24 hours before you remove the transfer paper. The longer you wait, the stronger the bond will be.
That’s it! If you follow these steps closely, your wall decal should look fantastic! We recommend reading through this guide once before you apply the decal. This way you know what to do once the decal is on the window.
