Alumalite
Product Questions
Details
Alumalite is a strong aluminum composite board made with two pre-painted sheets of aluminum with a high density, corrugated polyallomer (CPA) core that will not swell, wick water, corrode, rot, or delaminate due to prolonged water exposure, unlike wood or wood composite boards. With its 6mm thickness, Alumalite an excellent alternative to plywood, MDF, and other wood based sign faces, as it offers similar strength at a fraction of the weight.
The aluminum faces have a baked gloss white finish which makes them excellent for direct printing or for mounting of printed graphics. Excellent for long term outdoor use, they are popular for exhibits, display fabrication, signage, and POP displays. Available in 48" x 96" sheets. Larger sizes can be special ordered.
Indoor longevity of 5-25 years, outdoor longevity of 2 to 5 years.
Favorite Features
Alumalite is very rigid and wind-resistant and can withstand 120mph winds if properly installed. It is impervious to weather and is suitable for long term outdoor use, so it's possible to change graphics and continue to use the board. The smooth white faces are excellent for direct printing and the finished product is eco-friendly when direct printed.
Drawbacks
Alumalite has sharp edges, particularly at the corners, so it's not a good choice for sign faces where the edges are exposed or for mounting graphics where people can come in contact with the exposed edges. Because Alumalite has a corrugated core, the thin aluminum doesn't have as much support so it's fairly easy to dent compared with Dibond or E-Panel.
Best Applications
Single and double sided outdoor signs. POP displays. Alumalite is particularly good for large sign faces that are only supported on the edges, such as installed into a routed channel in sign posts.
