Portable Banner Stands
Portable banner stands are the models that are not retractable, but instead require the banner to be removed and reattached with each use. Since these models have no mechanism, they tend to be less expensive and with fewer moving parts, they are less likely to have mechanical issues due to rough handling during shipping. These models break down into two basic styles; tension back banner stands and telescopic banner stands. The telescopic styles feature a base with an adjustable height support pole that holds up the banner. There are top and bottom rails attached to the banner and the support pole holds those rails in some fashion. With some adjustable banner stand models, these are snap rails that grip the banner at the top and bottom, and on other models there may be velcro, mounting strips, or a rod or dowel that requires pole pockets on the banner. Telescopic portable banner stands are popular because of their versatility. They often have the ability to adjust the position of the bottom of the banner as well as the top, so the banner can be displayed off the ground, unlike retractable models and tension back banner stands where the banner always starts at ground level. Some models in this category have heavier bases that make them more stable in situations where people may come in contact with the display, such as retail shops. While these models are not as easy to transport, that is usually not a concern for retail banner stands, so they are ideal for that environment.
Tension back banner stands are more often used as trade show banner stands, as they are very light weight and compact so they are easy to travel with. Because if the simplicity of their design, they are very reliable and inexpensive, but they do take a little longer to set up and take down compared to retractable models, and more care must be taken when handling the banner so as not to crease or damage it. One of the most popular features of tension back banner stands is that they have very little of the stand itself visible when set up, so the banners are almost all that is visible, making for a very strong presentation. The banners are usually the full width of the stand so that multiple stands can be placed together into a banner wall with virtually no gaps between the banners, which is something that can't be said for retractable displays.
