When we first started offering large format printing services, it was with the idea of being able to print fine art reproductions. Unfortunately, until a few years ago, there was no digital equipment available that could offer the quality and longevity that we felt were required to produce prints at the highest level, which was our goal. We were one of the first companies to offer archival giclee printing when technology made it possible, and we continue to lead the industry in quality and service. Many companies have followed our lead, or outright copied us, but none of them has our unique combination of art background, color reproduction experience, and technical expertise to match our level of quality. Unfortunately, not everyone who offers fine art printing services shares our desire to produce fine quality art and photo reproductions. Many companies see giclee reproduction as an easy way to make money by simply purchasing a cheap inkjet printer, or making art prints on their sign making equipment. There are even articles and seminars that tell sign and copy shops how to use the right language to sell art prints regardless of the quality of their equipment or their expertise. These companies see that art prints tend to cost more than traditional digital prints, and look to cash in on what they perceive to be higher profits on these more expensive prints. While it's true that giclee prints are some of the most expensive we offer, it's still the least profitable part of our business. The time involved in color correcting images to ensure color matching, the constant equipment upgrades, the color profiling and testing of medias, the expensive waste involved due to inadequate quality prints that have to be destroyed, printer malfunctions, and media defects all contribute to the lower profitability of fine art printing. In fact, many reputable digital printers have left the giclee printing business for this reason, and in reality, if it were strictly a business decision, it's difficult to blame them. But, in our case, this is something we love to do and while we obviously must make money at it to continue offering the service, it's not a sideline we offer to get a better return on investment from our equipment. Our giclee printing equipment is purchased for that purpose alone. We have many other printers we use for producing signs, banners, and trade show graphics, so that we always offer the very finest quality available, for every type of printing we offer. Over the years it's become obvious that not every customer can see or appreciate the quality that we offer compared to other companies. But, we know the difference and will continue to provide top quality giclee printing because it's what we enjoy doing. And while it's always fun to see the stunned look on a customers face who has been to a competitor and is viewing our work for the first time in comparison, or hear from a satisfied customer who does know and appreciates the quality they have received, we would continue to provide the same quality without the recognition because that way we can feel proud of our work and happy that we have given the customer their money's worth.
